PROCESS
I make dances because it is how I communicate. The creation of performance is how I can best connect with the world. My process is initiated by socio-cultural observations and reflections on the human condition. In my work, I explore the individual's relationship with the self and with others, the latter defined broadly to encompass everyone from lovers and strangers to political figures and media personas. By translating into movement the way we interact and connect - or fail to connect - my work strives to help people better understand themselves and one another by challenging the viewer to see life from multiple perspectives.
I strive to push the boundaries of what we define as Dance. I am constantly in search of new ways of moving, new ways of expression through the body while acknowledging and honoring our dance histories. I am committed to making interdisciplinary pieces, work that goes beyond the restrictions of any one form. I believe art is at its strongest and most powerful when disciplines intertwine, borders are crossed and limits are transcended. My process is one of ongoing collaboration. I experiment with the dancers to create the movement, while always working closely with composers, visual artists and costume designers to complete a piece.
